I think we need to rethink cat toys. For example, my cat ignores all of the toys I buy him from the store and prefers to play with a dried up old sponge. I think the two textures of the sponge makes him go crazy so maybe we ought to be thinking about revamping cat toys!

Maybe put some kind of step on the side for older, arthritic cats or small kittens who can't jump that high to get inside. A cool modern cat tree/tower that is less than $250 would be cool, too!

Hello Goma and Sachie,

Season Greetings! My name is Alex. I am a senior siamese, living in
mOrange County, CA. First on my list woud be a revamped food and water dish. I drink a lot of water and Mom got me a fancy fountain, but I don't like it so much. Maybe, it is too noisy and bubbly. Maybe, I would like a food dish that is timed. Other than that, everything is pretty cool. Gotta go, time for my nap.

purrs and meows,

Though this litterbox would not pass muster with my furmily (I really don't think they'd like the top-loading or the fact that other cats might jump in after one is in there!), hopefully a single-cat furmily will win this and be able to enjoy it.

I think cat condos need an update: they should be both more attractive and more affordable. I get really frustrated when I see cat furniture that is essentially plywood, carpet remnants, and twine being sold for hundreds of dollars when I could build the same thing in an afternoon with a little bit of space and a lot less cost.

She would also like to see more "edible" greeneries & plants just for cats to eat that are safe, especially since she's always being told to stop eating my house plants...lol(none of mine are toxic or harmful by the way). She would also like a small indoor potted tree to climb and hide in that is sold with cats in mind.

I think what need to be most modernized is the litter itself (even tho I have great hope about this one - when I'm done with my studies or if I win ;) ...I am, one day, buying one of these!)
But other than the litter, most definetly cat fountain. My cat is allergic to the plastic of most of them, they're huge, noisy and a pain to clean. But with cats with tendancy to have urinay problem, I have to have one.
Happy Hollidays to all the cats and cat's owner around :D
Thanks !

Thanks & hugs to Goma!

Kitty condos, kitty trees, all with scratching posts they would really use. Most stuff out there is too bulky, too boring, designed by humans without a clue.

I think there should be some kind of modern looking feeding station for cats that gets their food up off the floor, like a wall mount that they can jump on or something. I have nine cats that spill their food a lot and I hate that it gets pushed around all over the dirty floor.

Cat litter definitely needs a re-think. Right now, we have the clumping type and the non-clumping type.

Typically the clumping type is like a clay-sand that sticks together when kitty pees. But the dust from the sand is bad for kitty's nose, esp the young ones, and kitty can leave tracks around the house after using the potty.

The other type that doesn't clump is usually made of paper so it doesn't track, but it's harder to tell if the litter is ready for disposal. Odor control isn't great either. So, what would be great is a clumping paper pellet-type litter that is bio-degradable and maybe changes colour when it's ready to be thrown/flushed away. It'll be even better if the pellets come with active-carbon for odor absorption too!

PS: Hi Goma! from Khai

Woohoo! I would love to win one of these! So what other cat product do I think needs a modern makeover? Cat furniture and scratchers mostly the scratchers. I mean it's usually just a chunk of cardboard that either is really boring looking or childlike. A more elegant looking scratcher and some cat furniture would be awesome. Something that fits in with the humans furniture so that when people see it the first thing they think isnt oh you have a cat but instead oh wow thats a nice piece of furniture! OH it's for the cat WOW! Well if I win you can e-mail me at onecatsnip@gmail.com! I hope I win!

You Cool Cats could most definitely design a scratch post to beat all scratch post. Material? I could send you the remains of the slipcover from my sofa? My cat pal Boo Radley digs it...digs it if you know what I mean.

So something sublime to shred! A chic, no plywood-nails and porridge-beige-carpet-remnant- covered monstrosity. Why such a product would be Time Magazine's "person" of the year!
Cheers!

HI Sachi and Goma,
Love the the litterbox and my boys would appreciate it too. I found my boys love interactive toys like lasers, wands even the little spider that moves on my IPod touch screen. I would love to see such a toy that would stimulate a cat's interest safely without my supervision while I work.Something sturdy and safe with LED lights which blink at random to challenge kitty and Pop up mice or treat dispensers. Even add on features like a 4 to 6 inch catdancer which moves at random (for supervised fun) Tess Gay

I live in a double level 2nd floor apartment. One thing that would be nice to have updated are cat perches. With the loft level open it'd be nice to put the cat steps/perches up w/o a lot of damage to the wall(which they all require).
Another awesome idea would be a cat screen porch allowing my cats to roam outside onto my balcony w/o the fear of them jumping down.
The third thing that needs to be modernized are cat condos. Boring. they all look, and are the same(and horribly overpriced). $12 of materials costs $140? That's not right.

It's true that ModKat and other cat-friendly designers make some uber cool stuff, but, they tend to be a bit pricey. And, considering how independent we cats are, just think how unhappy our staff would be if they spent many much munnies on a modern design cat tree and we didn't like it! And NEVER used it...such a gamble.

definitely cat scratching posts! I just let my girl have at it on a sisal rug. I actually ordered the white modkat a few weeks ago but since my brother's kitten has feline leukemia our cats can't get together. i'd love to get him a modkat as well!

Anonymous said...

My cats wouldn't use this, so what's the point in taking away from cats who would? Anyway, I'd like to see better collars. My six-year-old mix despises anything around his neck, which means we can't put ID on him. And maybe different fountains, I'd like to get one but my Manx-mix wouldn't drink it, he'd just play with it.

Shari B said...

I think we need new designs for mats or trays to go underneath or beside litter boxes to catch the litter on our cats's feet before they track it around the house. The ones available now are not very attractive. Someone else mentioned a step, which is a good idea and maybe could be incorporated into the mat somehow, perhaps a grid system with a tray or rug beneath, I don't know. That's for the geniuses to come up with! :-)

Valerie said...

This looks like a great litter box with a very stylish design. It probably also contains the odor better. I would love to see better designed food/water bowls. Ones that could hold a lot but would also be easy to clean. Also better designed cat towers that don't cost an arm and a leg. It does seem there are a lot more products for dogs than cats.
Thanks for the opportunity!

A "two-tone" edition of this fabulous idea will make it even more fabulous: make the sides of the litter box above the "litter line" clear see-through plastic. This way the cat inside will see out and cats outside will not need a "bussy" sign :)

I love these litterboxes, I've yet to see them in stores around here though so I've never been able to test one out.

Cat scratchers need a big update! They are too confusing to cats when covered in carpet and half the cats here don't care for carpet at all and still go after the sofa.
A great many are top heavy or slide all over when used.
The ones with cardboard tend to come flying out as soon as kitty sinks in the claws and pulls.

We are Maggy and Zoey, two Himalayans that live at Zoolatry. We and our Human would like a really serious improvement to our feeding dishes. We have dry food mostly, and dry treats... and crumbs and little bits seem to wind up all over the floor. Maybe we are just messy-kitty-girls, but our Human says she doesn't understand: there's a mat under our dishes, but the crumbs still wind up here and there and everywhere! She likes to go bare-foot in the house and says it's like walking on a gravel driveway when she walks in the kitchen: ouch! Then of course there is the secondary problem of when we stop and lick-up the crumbs we left behind and then the floor is also all sticky-gooey. So what do we do? We need a nice looking, easy to clean up, crumb-catching feeding station! PS... Merry Christmas to Goma.

I think a mod lookin bed to go with this litter box would be spiffy...especially if it had a scratching place on it.

another idea would be a cool table with litterbox inside and an upper surface meant for kitty kibble. even in bigger homes there arent that many places that arent already in use where kitty's food and potty can be kept free of roving bands of chihuahuas...

Nicer sturdy scratching posts or hyoloft snuggle ball type bed in new materials. Great litter box.

ecass96 said...

The self cleaning litter box needs a major revamp. The original has a reputation for pinching kitties with the moving arm, and the two latest models are too small for larger cats. I have a 13-pound cat who can't fit inside the two newest models and a 7-pound kitty who is too long to fit. They both end up with wet kitty litter in their fur. Also, the designs of the newest models are bulky and heavy and make moving the box difficult. None of them are user friendly enough (either for feline or human) for me to cough up the high price for.

I would love new and elegant design solutions for litter tracking. I think that a top-entry litter box would drastically decrease the amount tracked. But, for that little amount that is tracked, it would be nice to have nicely designed mats that have a grill or perforated top so the litter falls through.

What bothers me about the currently available litter mats is that the tracked litter either sits on top of the mat (which is ugly) or the mat is made out of an astroturf material to trap the litter OR the mat has a dual layer but looks plain ugly. The top of the modcat looks really nice and perhaps some aspects of it could be adapted into some kind of surface area to catch the little bit of litter that might escape.

i wish somebody would make a stylish piece of furniture that cats would feel compelled to rub themselves against. instead of the cat rubbing their hair all over your nice couch, they could rub it on this item instead. the furniture could maybe have some sort of self-automated cleaning system that collects the fur into a container so you can easily dispose of it. it would be a big help for people with very hairy cats who don't always have time to brush them!

Sure, they can snuggle up in their regular lined beds, but lately they have taken to sleeping directly in front of the heating vents, so that the nice warm air blows on them... or on mommy's heated waterbed, which is a big NO NO.

I think the cat cage should be revamped with a bit more space and wider access panels and maybe a place to hook food and water dish so it doesnt get throwen over.maybe different colors too to match your room.some suggestions anyway.and maybe a rubbing post-a deluxe model

Hi
I am waiting for cat furniture to be revamped like scratchers and kitty condos. I think they should be more eco-friendly and less expensive. I like what some manufacturers are doing with cardboard for scratchers. Maybe we can expand that into bigger furniture that can be made of recycled products. That way we can save our human furniture and provide our cats with their own scratchable furnitire.

I was gonna say I'd like to see some more modern scratchers, something L-shaped on it's side that can slip under the corner of a couch or mattress to protect them, with a choice of colors of sisal or burber (sp?) carpet, super steady and nice and tall,... but I saw someone mention the window perch and that DEFinitely needs a revamping! My cats don't even have one because I cannot find one that will meet their needs, especially in an apartment where I cannot change the windows and want as little damage to the walls as possible. lyzzal@gmail.com

Question: what other cat product do you think needs a modern make over?

I think that kitty beds need a modern makeover!
My kitty hates the cold, and often curls up on a pillow to try and keep warm! But being the softie I am, I bought a really cheap kitty bed and put an old heating pad on the inside of it. My kittie loves it! It would be nice for an affordable heated cat-bed such as my makeshift one! :D

I think cat towers need a modern makeover. They are always so tacky! I love them for their catness but they are ugly. Thanks for the chance to win.

I consulted Kai and she agrees that scratching posts need to be revamped. It's her favorite thing aside from taking naps in my lap, but it's such an eyesore. She would like something a little more stylish to better match her purrsonality.

My 5 cats needed a less expensive and more tall tree to play with many holes to hide!!!

So much opportunity for makeover starting with scratching posts -- my three amigos love the cardboard scratchy boxes that shred all over the place.
Next is climbing systems that are more natural for cats and do not sit on the floor with a big ugly carpet base. Then there are the cat beds, both design and quality like memory foam and maybe a safe way to warm them up. Dishes, feeding stations (dogs have it made but those are too tall for cats)...

Thanks for the giveaway - pawsome litterbox! Now we just need to figure out how to create a litter that doesn't track, isn't dusty, and doesn't smell! That is what I think needs a makeover!

I would like different types of food and water dishes, the ones that are out there now, are too tiny if you have more than one cat.

I bought a cat carrier on wheels but was dismayed to find how it was tilted (like regular luggage) when used. My cats do not want to be crooked!!! So it is not used. Is there any designs on wheels that the cat remains upright????
I'd also like to see the large cat condos/trees at an affordable price.

With so many cat scratchers to choose from, inventing one that doesn't come apart from the vigorous exercise a cat does to it. There's got to be some thing like a carpet that doesn't fall apart when a cat scratches on it.

What an awesome litter box! W/8 cats in the house there is always something left just outside the litter box. This would be wonderful to keep that under control!

This is such a great new concept for a litter box. It might take some getting used to, though. So what other cat product do I think needs a modern makeover? I think kitty condos do. They need to be more eco-friendly and more modern looking to match decor at home. Perhaps sturdier sisal rope that doesn't shred as easily, too.

I love this product! I think we should rethink the way we bath cats. There has to be a way to do it that is safe for friend & feline ;0)

I think we need better window perches! I always have to modify the ones I buy to really attach to the window frame and then the wall. My kitties LOVE to look out the windows at the birds and squirrels!
